Welcome to Math 219 at Santa Ana College! We'll be learning how to summarize information numerically and make observations about a large group of people, so one day for example when your boss (or a job interviewer) says our customers might want a wider variety of products, you'll know the Statistical concepts used to analyze whether that's true and use words that sound like you know what you're talking about. This course has frequent homework and discussion. Generally, there will be one or two assignments every day. The homework assignments have written content that reviews the concepts from the textbook plus questions to actively learn those concepts by doing Statistics ourselves. Every week there will be Discussion topics where we post a solution to a homework exercise or read an article, think about it and write a response to the class. We'll have review quizzes periodically and four exams as scheduled on WebAdvisor where you registered for the class. Three of those exams will be administered by the Assessment Center. You can schedule to take those exams during their hours. There's also a final exam that we will all take together in a classroom at the times listed in WebAdvisor. This class generally has one or two assignments due every weekday. We're going to work hard, get to know each other a bit and apply Mathematical concepts to the rest of our lives. Even if math concepts don't seem clear now, after December when a friend groans when they hear that you took a Statistics class, you'll be able to say "I understand Statistics!"
